- The ThyssenKrupp Stainless Group, the world’s largest producer of stainless steel, awarded Andritz a contract to supply three cold-rolling mills and one annealing and pickling line for cold-rolled strip for its
production works in Germany and China. The contract also includes an option for supply of a fourth rolling mill. With this important reference, the Rolling Mills and Strip Processing Lines Business Area has clearly affirmed its status as
one of the leading international suppliers in this sector. Andritz will provide the engineering, manufacturing, erection, and start-up of all necessary equipment.
One cold-rolling mill will be installed at
ThyssenKrupp’s Nirosta works in Krefeld, Germany. Two cold-rolling mills and an annealing and pickling line will be installed in Shanghai at Shanghai Krupp Stainless Steel. The three 20-high rolling mills with their special 4-column
design can roll strip up to 1,350 mm wide, with an average operating speed of 800 m/min. All mills are equipped with proprietary automatic shape control systems and mill set-up models. The annual production of each mill will be approx. 100,000
tons. It is noteworthy that this order is also the first turn-key project for the relevant industry within China.
- Baoxin, a stainless steel Joint Venture
Company of Baosteel and Nisshin, awarded a contract to Andritz for the supply of a 20-high cold rolling mill (4-column design), a tension leveling line and an annealing and pickling line for hot-rolled stainless steel strip, together with a mixed acid recovery
plant (Pyromars). This order follows previous order awards in 2001 and 2002, where Andritz performed very well in order execution and started similar lines much earlier than agreed upon.
- Early
in 2003 Andritz received an order from the Yieh-Group in Taiwan for an annealing and pickling line for hot-rolled stainless steel strip to be built for their new stainless steel plant in Guangzhou in Southern China. This line, with a capacity of 900,000 tons
per year, is the largest in the world and can handle strip up to 12 mm in thickness and 1,550 mm in width. In addition, late in 2003 Andritz received an order for a mixed acid recovery plant also to be built at the same plant in China.
For
these annealing and pickling lines, Andritz, with its subsidiaries Thermtec and Sundwig, is supplying complete systems consisting of mechanical equipment, annealing furnace, pickling section, and process automation. This reinforces the successful implementation
of the Business Area’s strategy to master all technologies of an annealing and pickling line and to supply complete systems as a single-source supplier with comprehensive know-how.
